If you’re thinking about selling your home, it can be hard to know the right time to make a move. Should you list now, or should you wait? Are there signs that it’s time to sell your home?
The good news is there are telltale signs that will let you know when it’s time to list your home; all you have to do is be on the lookout for them.
So what, exactly, are those signs?
Signs That It’s Time
A recent article from realtor.com outlined surefire signs that it’s time to sell your home, including:
- Your home is too small, and you don’t have the option to build. Many people outgrow their homes over time; for example, they might have children or have older family members come to live with them. Sometimes there are options to increase space in your existing home, like finishing an attic or basement. But sometimes, the only option is to add-on, and, depending on the municipality, that’s not always allowed. If you’re feeling cramped in your home — and there are no options to create more space — it’s a sign that it’s time to sell.
- Your home has too much space. On the flip side, sometimes homeowners find themselves in a home that’s just too big. For example, maybe the home was a good fit when children were in the home, but now that they’re out on their own, there’s way too much space for the remaining family members. If you find yourself in a home that has significantly more space than you want or need, it’s a good time to sell and downsize to a smaller (and more affordable!) home.
- The neighborhood isn’t a fit. The neighborhood in which you live is often as important as the house. And if you have serious issues with the neighborhood (for example, if you feel unsafe, you have problem neighbors, or the school district isn’t ideal for your children), it can be a sign that it’s time to sell and find a home in a neighborhood that’s a better fit for your needs.
